Newcomers in the Shark School July 31, 2019

New animals, including the whitetip reef shark and grey reef shark as well as zebra sharks, have arrived at the Shark School, where visitors have the chance to see the representatives of six different shark species.

The Shark School has increased its numbers with new sharks, rays and shoaling fish. The special venue opened in December as part of the Once Upon a Time Castle, where young sharks grow up in front of the eyes of the general public, and has so far been home to many different animals. Among them are, for example, blacktip reef sharks, two species of bony fish, various rays and shoaling fish; what is more, there is even a "shark eating" giant grouper, alternatively known as Queensland grouper.

It goes without saying that the headcount at the Shark School was not at its peak in December with the animals arriving. We said that new animals would arrive over the coming months, as we plan to complete the "classes" at the Shark School step by step.

The animals that arrived most recently became familiar with their new home, the tanks, a few days ago. To be precise, we have two whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), two grey reef sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), two zebra sharks (Stegostoma fasciatum), rays and shoaling fish, meaning that the number of shark species currently visible in the Shark School has increased to six.

Those who are interested to see how the animal care team of the Shark School work together with sharks and the other residents of the tanks, should check out the Shark School events, as part of the "Be there!" experiences at set dates and times: on such occasions carers - usually in diving suits - dive into the shark tank. You'll find further information on this and our other programmes, venues and starting times here.
