On August 9th, we celebrated our Zoo’s birthday, marking the 158th anniversary of its opening. For those who couldn’t join us that day—and for those who did and celebrated with us—we’ve created this video to relive the occasion.
The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, originally known as the Pest Zoo, opened its doors to the public on 9 August 1866. This year, we celebrated the 158th anniversary of its opening. To mark the occasion, we prepared a variety of activities for our visitors, including the introduction of our newly arrived brown bears, Hargita and Csángó. We also surprised the animals with special birthday treats. We prepared the goodies at the Main Gate Square (Főkapu tér), and after the official birthday greetings, the keepers delivered boxes filled with delicious treats to various animals. With this video, we are recalling the festive atmosphere of the day, thanking everyone for the many birthday wishes, and expressing our gratitude for the public’s continued interest and attention, even 158 years later.
