Birdo – Bird Photographer of the Year 2025

The Birdo competition, launched four years ago, aims to inspire more people to marvel at the beauty and diversity of the bird world. Last year, submissions were received from 30 countries, and this year, the number of participants is expected to increase. This international perspective makes the competition even more exciting and diverse, offering participants a richer and more diverse experience. This provides the opportunity for the audience to encounter diverse bird species and environments, while also discovering the photographic traditions of different cultures.
There are no restrictions regarding professional background or age to participate in the competition. In 2025, bird photographers can join the competition in 9+1 categories, with free entry. One of the main categories this year is bird conservation, where projects focusing on the protection of birds or their habitats can be submitted. An international panel of experts will review the submitted photos in two rounds, and the final ranking will be determined based on the scores of the images that reach the final round.
As the key professional supporter of the competition, our Zoo will once again be represented on the jury panel this year. The award-winning photographs will be on display for the public to enjoy at our Zoo for two months after the awards ceremony. The official award ceremony will take place on November 15, 2025, at the Biodome, and will be broadcast live in both Hungarian and English. Further details about the competition and registration can be found on the Birdo – Bird Photographer of the Year website.
