160 Years – Told Through Posters

This August, the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden celebrates its 160th anniversary. To mark 2026 as a jubilee year, we are organizing events and programs that highlight the Zoo’s past. The first of these is the outdoor exhibition titled “160 Years – Told Through Posters,” where you can view rare archival posters along the path from the main entrance toward Kisszikla.

The Zoo’s 160-year history is rich not only in animals, buildings, and legends but also in a unique visual heritage. Over the past century and a half, countless artists, graphic designers, painters, and workshops created posters for the Zoo, each reflecting the style, mood, and artistic world of its time. For the anniversary year, this exhibition was created from these rare works, often preserved only in archives, and brings the old masterpieces to life using modern techniques.
