In the year-long Magical Hungary photo competition, nature photographers are not only awarded various prizes, but the most stunning photographs are also showcased in a large-scale exhibition at prestigious venues in the capital. Visitors can admire magical landscapes, intimate and exciting moments from the daily lives of animals, and sensitive, artistic representations of a world invisible to the naked eye. The exhibition’s images invite visitors on a unique journey, offering a glimpse into the rich and diverse world of Hungary’s national parks.
Magical Hungary is one of the country’s most exciting and prestigious nature photography competitions. Photographers are encouraged to go out into nature and capture the diverse wildlife and wild landscapes of our national parks. Both the photographers and the audience get a closer look at the natural world, as the photos open a window to the country’s natural wonders for everyone.
Photographers compete throughout the year, spending all seasons in the field to capture nature, and then presenting their best works to a professional jury to climb the photography rankings. The photographer with the most outstanding results of the season receives Hungary’s top nature photography award, represented by the Golden Crane statue.
From the most beautiful images of the competition season, a stunning photo album and a large-scale exhibition are created, which the public can admire at several prestigious venues across the country. In 2026, the exhibition will first be on display at the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden.
Nature photography enthusiasts at the exhibition can also see the winning images from the different competition categories and explore a representative selection showcasing the magical natural world of Hungary’s ten national parks: beautiful landscapes, peaceful and tense moments from animals’ daily lives, and artistic depictions of a world invisible to the naked eye.
The exhibition is open during the animal houses’ opening hours:
Further details will be shared after the award gala.
The event can be visited with a general zoo ticket or an annual pass.
