World Press Photo 2025

The World Press Photo exhibition showcases the world’s best and most important press and documentary photographs, selected by an independent jury. The exhibition encourages viewers to step outside the news cycle and think critically about the important issues in our world. We believe that accurate, diverse, and high-quality visual stories help promote mutual understanding globally.

A total of 3,778 photographers from 141 countries submitted 59,320 photos. The awarded 42 photographers represent 31 countries: Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, El Salvador, France, Germany, Haiti, Iran, Iran/Canada, Italy, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Palestine, Peru/Mexico, the Philippines, Portugal, Russia/Germany, South Korea, Spain, Sudan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Venezuela.

Accompanying Exhibitions:
  • Budapest 75 – The administrative area of Budapest was established 75 years ago, in 1950. This exhibition features archival Fortepan photographs and newsreel footage to commemorate the 1950s.
  • Jelle Krings: Iron People – The war in Ukraine through the eyes of the railway community.
On the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. As rockets struck major Ukrainian cities, railway workers reported for duty and boarded trains heading east. Over 6 million people were evacuated and transported westward to the borders shared with European countries. This is their story.
  • Water – A photo competition supported by the EU and organized by SLOVAK PRESS PHOTO, open to photographers from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Ukraine. The project emphasizes that the Danube Lowlands hold one of Europe’s largest reserves of drinking water, which needs protection.
