Adoption
Foundation for the Budapest Zoo
The most popular way to support the Zoo is through the symbolic adoption of animals. Organized by the Zoo Foundation, thousands of people become honorary foster parents each year. The adoption package includes a decorative, personalized certificate, the animal’s biography, a photo, and a plastic foster parent card, which allows free entry to the Zoo twice a year – during the Foster Parents’ Meetings in May and October. At these meetings, foster parents can attend a parental conference, where they can talk with the animal’s caretaker about their favourite animal’s well-being and daily life.
Of course, the adopted animal stays at the Zoo and cannot be taken home. Still, it can bring a lot of joy: more and more people are choosing to gift the symbolic adoption of an interesting animal (such as an elephant, tiger, penguin, or any resident of our Zoo) to their loved ones for birthdays, anniversaries, or Christmas.
Many famous people have been moved by our residents, and among our foster parents, we count actresses Cecília Esztergályos, Szonja Oroszlán, and Judit Pogány; actors Gábor Forgács and Kristóf Németh; singers Éva Csepregi, Ferenc Demjén, and Péter Geszti; race car driver Norbert Michelisz; and Olympic athletes Boglárka Kapás and Áron Szilágyi.
